MetalShield™® Protection

By Gary Gardnier

MetalShield™ is a term we have recently ‘coined’ to describe the quality coating that each of our towbars, weight distribution hitches and other products receive.

Using towbars as an example, after each bar is cut and meticulously welded together, they get put onto a production line for shot blasting, e-coating and powder coating. This three stage process ensures each towbar is free of faults, protected from corrosion and guaranteed to last a lifetime.

The shot-blasting process involves blasting thousands of tiny ball bearings at each raw product to remove any foreign contaminants and to strengthen welds. After they reappear from shot-blasting cage each bar goes into the e-coating machine to receive an electromagnetic coat of paint.

E-coating (also known as electrocoating or electrodeposition) is the process by which a metallic product is submerged in a paint or water bath and electricity is used to deposit paint onto the surface. The e-coating process is the most automatic, controllable, and efficient method for applying a corrosion inhibiting primer to a metallic product.

After the e-coat process, each bar is powder-coated to add an extra level of protection. Applied electrostatically, each bar is ‘cured’ under heat to allow it to flow and form its final ‘skin’.

Every Hayman Reese towbar, weight distribution hitches and other products receive the MetalShield™ coat of protection. It is why we are confident of offering limited lifetime warranties on many of our products and is a significant point of difference between us and our competitors.
